Arvid and Joan Anderson attended the Lions District 9SE Convention at the Catholic Church McAleer Hall in Fort Madison on Saturday, April 13.

In the afternoon session of the Convention, Arvid was recognized as a 60-year-charter member of the Crawfordsville Lions Club. A letter was read by Dist. Gov. DeEtta Rasmussson and signed by Lions International President Wayne Madden recognizing his 60-year membership. Arvid served many years ago as president of the Crawfordsville Lions Club and later as zone chairperson of Lions District 9B and cabinet secretary-treasurer for the district governor. In 1994, Arvid was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.

Larry and Donna Fletcher spent the weekend of April 20 at Bill Zuber’s Hotel in Homestead, in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary which was Sunday, April 28. On Sunday, they were joined for brunch at the Ox Yoke Inn in the Amana Colonies by their daughter and husband and sons, Pam and Steve Green, Fletcher and Jacob of Washington and their son and wife and family, Brad and Carol Fletcher, Clint and Emma of Cedar Falls.

The Crawfordsville Lions Club met at 7 p.m. Monday, April 22, at the Crawfordsville Community Room. There were nine members present.

In the absence of President Steve Williams, First Vice President Larry Fletcher took the gavel. He led the Pledge of Allegiance and called on Larry Love to give the invocation. The minutes from the April 8 meeting were read and approved. Treasurer Randy Finke gave the treasurer’s report.

Members of the club are invited to the Mount Pleasant Lions Club Charter banquet on May 4. All were encouraged to attend to support local Lions clubs.

Randy Finke gave a report on the district convention. He mentioned that state and international dues most likely will be increased. That brought forth the question whether or not local club dues will need to be raised. This will addressed at a later date.

Members were reminded that the car show is June 1 at the ball park. The local club will handle the concession stand. The second May meeting will be held at 6 p.m. May 20, to clean up the ball park.

The May 13 dinner meeting will feature international exchange student Stefanie Aerni of Switzerland, who is making her home with Pastor and Mrs. Jason Collier and family.
