Cross-country teams performing well

Sep 27, 2017

1) How did the team do yesterday?

The team did well, we were without 2 of our top 5 on the girls side, so that definitely factored in to the team scores but we had several girls step up and run great races.

The boys team had one of their best scores of the season.

By having the jv and varsity kids run together at our home meet it really allows for some nice head to head competition for those last few varsity spots.

We did see Abby Voss and Michael Kimball break in to those varsity spots for the first time all season. It was a great team effort by everyone last night.

2) What were some of the contributions to how the team did?

On the boys side, Brennan had the best race I’ve ever seen him run, he got out with the leaders and was able to beat a couple of runners whom had been beating him all season.

He is really starting to believe in himself and isn’t afraid to push the pace.

Each meet he looks stronger and stronger. Evan and Jacob also had great races coming in 7th and 10th, they ran smart by going out hard and staying within contact of that pack.

They were both able to beat a few people that have been beating them.

Blake and Matt continue to have a strong season as they are both still running 2-3 minutes faster on every course this year compared to last year.

They have both put in alot of miles over the summer, and it is paying off.

On the girls side, Brooke continues to look strong, she has always been a great starter and is able to stay towards the front pack.

There were 4 ranked girls running at the meet yesterday so she knows those 4 will take off and she just has to run her race and stay in contention with the 2nd pack.

She is having a great senior season. Ashley also had a huge race yesterday, she was the closest to Brooke as she has ever been and she is closing the gap on several of the girls in our Conference.

She ran a full minute faster this year than she did last year. Hannah Rees had a great run last night.

She was our #4 runner on the team, she got out well and continued to work her way up in the field.

She has been working hard in practice and it is starting to show.

3) What is the next meet? How will the team prepare?

We head to IMS (Wellman) next Monday. We are going to have some fun tonight and play a game for practice, and then continue to work hard.

4) Who are the runners that have improved this year?

To be honest, the whole team has really stepped up and improved so much this year.

They definitely seem to care a little more this year.

We have 6 seniors and you can tell they all want to finish strong and that is leading the whole team to step up and work hard.
