Demon seventh-graders sweep Edward Stone

The Washington seventh-grade boys’ basketball team won three games over visiting Edward Stone on Thursday night.

The Demon A team blew out Edward Stone 42-15. Jack Redlinger scored nine points to lead a balanced Washington squad. Jaivonn Willis, Blake Hartzler and Dalton Meyers added eight points apiece. Mitchell Huisenga scored four points, and Zeb Roos had three. Jacob Van Osdol chipped in two points. Willis pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the Demons (7-2) on the boards, and Huisenga had nine. Meyers grabbed six rebounds, while Roos and Redlinger had three apiece.

“We played outstanding defense, especially in the second half,” Washington head coach Mark Berhow said. “We held them to eight points in the second half while we scored 29. I am very proud of how they carried out the defense we worked on in practice. It was a very rewarding victory for us.”

The Washington B team defeated Edward Stone 23-14. Matt Roder scored nine points to lead the Demons (5-4), and he also grabbed five rebounds. Cale Hobscheidt added eight points and six rebounds. Mason Letts, Brennan Horak and Thomas Zimmer chipped in two points apiece. Zimmer pulled down four rebounds, Letts had three, and Horak grabbed two. Landon Hinkley and Eric Sanchez snagged six rebounds apiece in the contest, and Van Osdol had five. Sam Donnolly grabbed a pair of rebounds.

The Demon C team held off Edward Stone for a 19-17 win. Zimmer scored five points to lead Washington (7-2), while Roder and Jameson Bell added four points apiece. Sanchez, Letts and Caleb Woodson chipped in two points apiece. Roder pulled down a team-high five rebounds, while Zimmer and Sanchez had four apiece. John Lisauskas grabbed three rebounds, and Donnolly had two. Letts, Woodson and Mario Tapia each collected one rebound.

The Washington seventh-grade boys’ basketball team will host rival Mt. Pleasant today at 4:30 p.m. and then travel to Fairfield tomorrow.
