Next week is homecoming week for the Washington Demons.

Activities start at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 18, with a kickoff assembly in the Washington Performing Arts and Events Center.

“And we’ll introduce the homecoming court to the kids,” Washington High School principal Erik Buchholz said. “There will be a staff skit right before that.”

Monday evening the junior varsity football team will play against Solon at Case Field at 6 p.m.

“We always have the JV games on Monday nights,” Buchholze said.

The homecoming court will introduce themselves at United Presbyterian Home, Halcyon House and McCreedy Home later in the week.

“On the 20th, the candidates will go to all the different retirement homes,” Buchholz said. “They also go to WCDC and they go to Lending Hands.”

Voting for the homecoming king and queen also will take place during lunch Sept. 20.

On Thursday, Sept. 21, the Brighton Parade will be held at 9 a.m., Buchholz said.

Spirit Night will be held at 7 p.m., that evening in the Washington Performing Arts and Events Center with the bonfire following immediately after.

“Last year we went through things faster than we thought we were going to, so that bonfire could go — depending on how many skits people want to put in there at 7:30 p.m.,” Buchholz said.

This is the second year for Spirit Night.

“We’re anticipating this will go really well,” Buchholz said. “We’ll have the doors open early to let people come in and sit down and visit — that really is our biggest change on things.”

On Friday, Sept. 22, the whole district will celebrate homecoming.

There will be an early dismissal at 1:10 p.m., with the parade starting at 2 p.m.

“We will go down the north side of Halcyon House [West Tyler Street,” Buchholz said. “We will line up on the west side of Halcyon House and turn down the north side of Halcyon House and then we will take Iowa into the square.”

Parade floats will need to be at the high school between 1 and 1:30 p.m., he added. The classes can build their floats Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

“And then we have the pep rally at the square at 3 p.m.,” Buchholz said. “Then the freshman game will start at 5 p.m. and the varsity game will start at 7:30 p.m., and then there will be the introduction of the court after the freshman game.”

Washington will play against Fairfield for its homecoming game this year.

The week will end with the homecoming dance in the auxiliary gym from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23.
