The Washington girls’ basketball team cruised to an easy 49-12 victory against Fort Madison Wednesday, in the first round of the class 4A regionals.

Washington took an early 15-3 lead after the first quarter and were ahead 33-8 at the half.

The Bloodhounds struggled to get the ball upcourt against the Demon press, resulting in many turnovers throughout the game.

In the second half, Washington continued to force turnovers and score easy points on fast breaks.

The Demons’ passing game also found holes in the Bloodhound defense, leading to easy baskets.

Sarah Nacos led the Demons with 15 points. Haylee Wilson had nine points and Anna Nacos had six.

Washington is now 7-15 on the year and Fort Madison is 1-21. The Demons will play next in a regional semifinal Saturday when they play a defending state champion, North Scott.
