Demons fall at Keokuk

May 03, 2013

KEOKUK — The Washington boys’ soccer team may have lost 3-1 at Keokuk on Thursday evening, but head coach Steven Caulk said he was pleased with his team’s effort.

“Keokuk won, but they didn’t trounce us like they have in years past,” he said.

The Demons lost to the Chiefs by scores of 13-5 and 9-2 last season, and Keokuk won in Washington 4-0 earlier this season.

The Chiefs (5-4, 4-2) scored a pair of goals in the first half and another early in the second half. Freshman Christian Mejia scored Washington’s lone goal.

“We had a number of chances that bounced out instead of in,” Caulk said. “That game could have been 3-2 or 3-3.”

Washington (2-6, 1-4 Southeast Conference) travels to the Mid-Prairie tournament tomorrow at noon. Then the Demons will host Fort Madison next Monday and Mt. Pleasant next Thursday in Southeast Conference matches.
