Displaying respect

July 31, 2015
Washington, Iowa

To the Editor:
On Thursday evenings we enjoy the Washington Municipal Band concerts in the Central Park. They end each concert by playing the national anthem in honor of those who have kept our nation free. Civilians may place their right hand over their heart while active military, police and firemen in uniform render the hand salute! Retired military, veterans, police and firemen in civilian attire may render the hand salute or place their right hand over their heart. This displays the respect and honor and our thanks toward those who have paid the supreme sacrifice of life and limb to preserve our great nation. Politically correct? Maybe not? This practice is an indication of the true heart of Americans’ loyalty!
