Dorothy M. Chabal, age 91, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington following a lengthy illness.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with services conducted by Michael Zahs. Calling hours will begin at noon Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the First Christian Church or the American Cancer Society. Dorothy was born August 5, 1926, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of William and Gladys (Nickerson) Putman. She attended school in Washington, Iowa, graduating from Washington High School in 1944. Dorothy was united in marriage to Edward Charles Chabal on February 7, 1950, in Washington, Iowa. Dorothy worked for the Washington County Clerk of Court.

Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church where she was active in Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF). She was a member of the HJ Social Club and volunteered for the Washington County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Dorothy worked with her husband for many years in making handcrafted wood furniture. She enjoyed traveling to craft shows and attended Old Threshers for many years. She and Ed were recipients of the Midwest Old Threshers' Thresher of the Year awards.

She is survived by her son, William Edward Chabal and wife Karen of Washington, Iowa; son-in-law, Allen Miksch of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren: Louis Miksch and wife Christina of Washington, Iowa, Molly Johnson and husband Jason of Washington, Iowa, Ryan Chabal of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Kathryn Chabal of Salt Lake City, Utah; four great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mary Putman of Washington, Iowa.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2009; daughter, Peggy Miksch in 2013; and one brother, William Putman.
