DURANT — Durant swept Highland from the postseason on Tuesday, defeating the Huskies by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-16 in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal.

“The girls started of the match competing with them,” Highland head coach Chris Rath said. “We stuck with them each game, but could not finish. We led the third game, but let them back in. It was a hard game to end on for this group because we knew they were a team equal with us and very beatable.”

Junior Jordan Rath led the Huskies with six kills, while senior Kelsey Doreo and sophomore Sam Dutton added four kills apiece. Senior Paige Wieland chipped in three kills. Junior Kaitlin Hora disched out six assists.

Rath and senior Kassie Vazquez were both 11-for-11 serving in the match with one ace apiece, and Doreo was 9-for-9 with an ace.

Vazquez had a team-high nine digs on the night. Sophomore Chelsey Lampe had seven blocks, and Rath had six.

Highland finished its season with a record of 16-16.

“Our girls had a great season this year,” Rath said. “They hit more goals than we had set at the beginning of the season. As coaches we were so excited after each goal was met. We finished fifth in the conference, going 5-4, and we had a final record of 16-16. It was an amazing season.”
