Eagles celebrate Homecoming Week

KEOTA — Even though snow is on the ground and the beginning of football season is eight months away, Keota School District is celebrating homecoming with a week full of events for the entire district.

Due to Keota’s football program being run in the Sigourney School District, Keota wanted to have its own homecoming. The school district celebrates basketball season for homecoming instead of football season.

Monday is America Day. Students will dress in their most patriotic attire. One girl was reportedly dressed as the statue of liberty.  Tuesday celebrates the 1980s. Students will dress as their favorite 80s character. Wednesday is character/Reality TV Day and students will dress as a reality TV character. A lipsinc contest will also be held at 8 p.m. in the high school gym. Thursday is gangster day. Students will dress in the 1920s pin stripe suits. The anything goes contest will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the high school gym. Students will perform different competitions. Different classes will have teams. Games include dodgeball, homer head, and balloon burst. The events will finish with a tug of war. Friday is spirit day. A pep rally will be held at 2 p.m. in the gym. The gym will be the site for the homecoming game against Lynnville-Sulley at 6 p.m. During the halftime of the girl’s game, the No. 1 Eagle Fan will be announced and a money shoot will be held. During the halftime of the boy’s game, the homecoming king and queen will be crowned. Homecoming dance will be after the game until midnight in the junior high gym.

The homecoming court in Keota is made up of Logan Woltering, son of Tom and Lisa Woltering; Lexi Sieren, daughter of Aaron and Geri Sieren; Taylor Wright, daughter of Brian and Crystal Wright; Megan Olson, daughter of Matt and Lori Olson; Brian Berg, son of Alan and Judy Berg; Ethan Lyle, son of Jared and Angela Lyle; Derek Hammen, son of Dave and Patty Hammen; and Kevin Weber, son of Mike and Susan Weber. Homecoming escorts are Jade Redlinger, daughter of Mary Pat and Bill Redlinger;  and Kevin Miller, son of Bill and Necole Miller.
