Three new teams grace the top of this week’s Gazette/KGYM football rankings, released Monday.

Cedar Rapids Xavier (Class 3A), Waukon (2A) and West Lyon (1A) vaulted to the top of their respective classes after last week’s No. 1 squads were tripped up.

Xavier (2-0) took care of business with a 16-0 win over Linn-Mar, and earned top billing on four of six ballots after Dallas Center-Grimes ended Pella’s 42-game winning streak, 10-7.

Dallas Center-Grimes (2-0) climbs two spots to No. 2; Sioux City Heelan (2-0) is No. 3. The Mustangs and the Crusaders each earned a first-place vote. Pella (1-1) slipped to fourth.

West Lyon’s 35-28 win over Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley impacted the top of two classes.

The Wildcats (2-0) moved to the head of 1A when Iowa City Regina fell to 0-2 with a 33-0 loss to Solon. They edged Van Meter (2-0), 54-53, at the top of the poll, and Regina is third.

Meanwhile, Waukon (2-0) replaced BHRV after holding off New Hampton, 28-20.

The Indians earned four first-place votes and are followed by Williamsburg (2-0), BHRV (1-1) and Mount Vernon (1-1).

Williamsburg has outscored its first two opponents by a 104-20 count; Mount Vernon rebounded from a Week 1 loss to Solon by edging West Delaware, 24-21. Both will be heavily favored in the rest of their games before colliding in the regular-season finale.

Iowa City West (2-0) remains at No. 3 after shredding Muscatine, 51-3. Cedar Rapids Prairie (2-0) climbed a spot to No. 9.

In Class A, Council Bluffs St. Albert (2-0) maintains a slim lead over Gladbrook-Reinbeck (2-0) after bashing 2A Carroll Kuemper, 55-7.

Harris-Lake Park, Don Bosco and Audubon — all 2-0 — remain the top three in 8-Player after lopsided wins. Harris-Lake Park hasn’t allowed a point through two games. Class 3A
