WELLMAN — Evelyn Lucille Brown, 88, of Wellman, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017, in Parkview Manor in Wellman.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, in the Prairie Flower Baptist Church in rural Washington. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 30 in the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman.

Mrs. Brown was born May 8, 1928, in Ottumwa, the daughter of James and Rowena (McDaniel) Broherd. She married William Brown on April 27, 1946 in Ottumwa. She worked as a nursing assistant at Raim and Blank Children’s Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. She and her husband moved to Wellman in 1957.

She was a member of the Prairie Flower Baptist Church. She was well known in the community for her wonderful cakes that she made.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Janice Long and husband Max of Brighton and Sharon Miller and husband Larry of Wellman; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Brown of Wellman; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Parson of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dennis Brown; and three brothers, gary Broherd, Bob Broherd and Alan Mangold.
