Festivities on the Fourth

A ground display was included in the 2012 Independence Day fireworks display set off at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

In the next week there will be several opportunities to take part in activities and to view fireworks in Washington County.
The first opportunity for fireworks will be on Saturday, June 29, at Trek Fest in Riverside. According to the Trek Fest Web site, the fireworks are being done by Stumptown Shooters. They will be shot off at 10 p.m. at Hall Park.
On July 3, there will be a couple of activities taking place at the Shiloh Amphitheater. Food vendors and music will kick off at 4 p.m., the Shiloh Amphitheater Web site.
At 9 p.m. the fireworks will be lit. The cost to park your vehicle will be $5. If there is rain the rain date will be July 4 at 9 p.m., the Web site said.
On July 4, Wellman will have its Fourth of July celebration. The day kicks off with the 5K run at 8 a.m. At 10 a.m. will be the parade. Registration for the parade is at South Main Street the city’s Web site said.
During the afternoon there will be several other activities, including the Lone Tree tractor pull, water wars at the Wellman tennis courts, and music at the band shell by Justin Horesowsky with family and friends from 6:30 p.m. until the fireworks begin, the city’s Web site said.
The fireworks will begin at 9:35 p.m., said Wellman city administrator Nick Pacha.
“They’ll be shot off at the Wellman Golf Course,” Pacha said, “and are done by the Wellman Volunteer Fire Department.”
The City of Washington will be having fireworks at the Washington County Fairgrounds beginning at dusk, said city clerk Illa Earnest. The fireworks are being done by J & M Displays, Earnest said.
