Washington High School head football coach Garrison Carter has accepted another position and will be leaving at the end of this school year.

In an email to The Journal, Carter said he accepted a position with ADM High School as head football coach.

“This sounds cliché, but this has truly been the most difficult decision of my life,” Carter said. “I am so proud of the program we have built, and I love each of our players dearly. Ultimately, what is in the best interest of my family won out. This move allows us the opportunity to be closer to our family, and as we start having kids this was extremely important to us.”

Carter came to the district four years ago. Some of the accomplishments the team achieved while he was at the helm included: 29-12 record; three trips to the playoffs; a trip to the quarterfinals; No. 1 ranking in the Des Moines Register; 2017 offense lead in the state for points per game, yards per game and yards per play; 12 All-State Selections and 14 players going on to play in college after signing day this year.

Carter said he is excited for his next challenge as a coach.

“It is a football program that has struggled through some down years recently, but they have a lot of exciting resources that I think can lead to success,” he said. “I am a builder by nature, and I am excited for the challenge of rebuilding the ADM Football program.”
