In April, several area Future Problem Solving teams competed at the State Bowl in Ames where two teams and one individual placed first or second in their age divisions. Based on their performance at the FPS State Bowl, they will be representing Iowa at the 2018 Future Problem Solving International Competition in Wisconsin June 7-10. At the State Bowl, students used their problem-solving skills to address a futuristic scenario on the topic of Cloud Storage. The topic for the International Competition will be Criminal Justice Systems.

In the senior division (grades 10 – 12), the team of Nate Lamansky, Caleb Ferreira, Lexi Tu and Ben Berhow placed second. This team also placed third for its oral Presentation of Action Plan. Nate earlier placed second in Iowa in the separate Scenario Writing Competition; his topic was Philanthrocapitalism.

The team of Brady Diercks, Mary Fritz, Titus Neuschwander, and Lucas Yutzy place second in the middle division (grades 7 – 9). Their Presentation of Action Plan placed sixth.

Adelle Jenkins, competing individually in the junior division, won the State Championship. Adelle earlier placed second in Iowa for her short story, and she placed first in the new FPS component of storytelling.

All the students are home schooled. Their coach is Paula Lawson-Moore.
