Led by Cale Robertson’s 21 points, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks defeated the West Liberty Comets, 45-36.

Robertson also pulled down 8 rebounds in the Golden Hawks’ second win of the year.

Other leading scorers were Brad Tornow with 8 points and Dominic Pickard with seven.

The Hawks got off to a good start, leading 12-8 after the first quarter, though they trailed at halftime 19-16. The two teams traded scores until the fourth quarter when Mid-Prairie put together a 13-1 run to take the lead.

One bright spot in the offense was the Hawks making 13 of 16 from the free-throw line in the final quarter. The Hawks made 14 of 22 free throws for the game

Head coach Daren Lambert was pleased with the Hawks’ defensive effort and reduced number of turnovers.

“Our guys responded well to a rough start offensively. Our defensive effort carried us and created easy offense to get us ahead. We did a much better job of taking care of the basketball and putting pressure on our opponent on defense. Cale Robertson led us with 21 points,” he said.

Kyle Miller led the Hawks rebounding with nine, followed by Chaz Patterson with seven.

The Hawks are now 2-4 on the season.
