Grants available to 4-H clubs for local community improvement projects

Nov 09, 2017

Community Service Learning is an important priority of the 4-H program and a goal of each 4-H club annually. Each year DuPont Pioneer offers grants to 4-H clubs for local community improvement projects. The purpose is to provide “seed money” 4-H clubs can use to start their project. Grants awarded vary from $50-$500.

An application process requires clubs to explain the project, plans and other funds for the project. Successful projects will include all members in the 4-H club to positively affect the entire community with a lasting impact.

Some previous service projects included clubs who have purchased, installed, and planted raised garden boxes at nursing homes. Another example was a club who replaced damaged equipment, landscaping and trees at city park.

These grant applications and information are available at the Washington County Extension Office, 319-653-4811, or at https://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/pioneergrants Completed applications are due to the Washington County Extension Office by Jan. 16. Decision letters will be sent in April.
