Halcyon House News

Jun 30, 2017

Daniel Wright, representing the Faith Baptist Church, led the weekly service with Halcyon House residents. The sermon was titled “Born Again at a Seasoned Age.” The service included Scripture from Mathew 27:38, Luke 23:32-43 and Mark 15:27. Jan Boyd shared her musical gifts on the piano.

In the households on Father’s Day, men enjoyed wearing boutonnieres the Activities Department provided. A group of residents enjoy getting together for lunch on Wednesdays with the Activity Department in the Applewood Bistro for “Bistro Buddies” lunch group.

On Monday, June 26 country music singer and guitar player from Morning Sun, Bob Nolan, entertained a large group of residents in the Timmins dining room with classic oldies songs. Tuesday, June 27, Mary Jo Koehler came to Halcyon to sing and play the guitar to residents in Rosewood. That afternoon, “Know Your Neighbor” guest speaker this week was Dana Rembold. She is a para educator at the Washington High School and also works for the family business, Moore’s BP Amoco.

On Thursday, volunteers Richard Colby came and gave a classical music program called “Classics Et Cetera” to a packed room in Rosewood. Carol Mottet played dice with the residents in Wedgewood and in the afternoon Al and Lorna Olson facilitated a Bible study group in Wedgewood.

Halcyon House values the volunteers who share with us their time and talent. Music Therapist Elisabeth Tinnes shares her talent with residents on Thursdays.

Halcyon House residents for the past few years have been coming together every Wednesday afternoon in the Marshall Gameroom at Halcyon House for Social Hour. The Social Hour group has been having so much fun they decided to add Social Hour to their Monday schedule too and relocate it to the Applewood Bistro. Social Hour is a great way for Halcyon residents to connect with their fellow residents and a wonderful opportunity for our new residents to get to know their new neighbors. Residents also partake in Taco Tuesday and Mix and Mingle in the Applewood Bistro once a month. Connecting with others is part of “Being Well” and there are many opportunities for Halcyon House residents to do just that!

MaryAnn Hennigan enjoyed a recent visit from grandson Michael Hennigan and his wife Holli. They live in Nashville Tennessee and stopped to visit MaryAnn and introduce her to her 3 1/2 month-old great-granddaughter, Emmerson Grace. This is MaryAnn’s 21st great grandchild. It was a fun visit for all!

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Birdie Leavitt, Connie Sorrell, Jean Fontinel, and Loretta Gardner.
