The Rev. W. David Watson, representing the First Assembly Church, led the weekly service with Halcyon House residents. The sermon was titled “What Kind of Soil Are You?” The service included scripture from Mark 4:1-10. Special Music was provided by Nolan Watson.

Residents in the Halcyon House households were excited about hearing the activities during Washington County Fair week. Student leaders and children of the Faith Baptist “Summer Serve” volunteer program came and made homemade lemonade shake-ups with the Activity Department for the residents. The residents enjoyed listening to some of them play the piano and being served a refreshing drink.

Richard Colby gave his “Classics Et Cetera” classical music program featuring composers Giuseppe Verdi, Sir Edward Elgar, Johann Sebastian Bach, Richard Milburn, Franz Schubert and John Philip Sousa in Rosewood household. Carol Mottet played “Dice” with the residents in Wedgewood. Al and Lorna Olson facilitated the “Bible Study” group with residents in the family room in Wedgewood.

Residents of Rosewood enjoyed Elisabeth Tinnes, who sang and played the guitar. Elisabeth is a certified music therapist. Arborwood residents enjoyed sing-alongs, games, bingo and creative arts class making watercolor roses.

Doris Slocombe came and sang to residents in the Rosewood household. That afternoon all the households enjoyed Activity’s serving them Muscatine cantaloupe and grapes in a cup. Throughout the week residents were given word searches that had a county fair based theme.

They have enjoyed time catching up and eating out together. They all attended an extended family reunion for Alice’s side of the family in Oskaloosa on Sunday.
