Residents gathered in the Game Room on Monday for a “Total Solar Eclipse Party.” They enjoyed snacks of Sun chips, Sunkist orange slushies, veggies and dip. With their Eclipse glasses residents and team members took a sneak peek at the sun though clouds hampered the view a bit. They watched events throughout the U.S. on the large flat screen television of the “path of totality” and enjoyed socializing.

Tuesday morning the residents went to Timmins Dining and enjoyed the music and spiritual message of Texas-based Pastor Chris O’Loughlin, his wife and children. He preached the Word with a western twist. He made analogies about the western chuckwagon driver who not only made food for cowboys on the range but carried their provisions, acted as a counselor, navigator and spiritual guide to many young men on the cattle drive. Pastor O’Loughlin and his family drove from Texas and were specially invited to Washington County by Bob and Linda Bonar. The residents really enjoyed them sharing their time and talents. Also on Tuesday, Mary Jo Koehler entertained residents in Rosewood by singing and playing the guitar.

Wednesday a group of residents ate together in the Applewood Bistro and enjoyed socializing for the “Bistro Buddies” lunch group. Wednesday afternoon, residents in Arborwood enjoyed making and eating cucumber sandwiches.

Thursday and Friday mornings, Richard Colby comes to Halcyon to share his “Classics Et Cetera” classical music program. Residents attend either program in the Rosewood Sensory Room or in the Chapel on Fridays. This week’s featured composers included Giacomo Puccini, Anton Reicha, Ludwig van Beethoven, Sergio Franchi, Arthur Pryor, Alexander Borodin and Mayhew Lake. Carol Mottet played dice with residents in Wedgewood Thursday morning as well. Thursday afternoon, “Cowboy Jim,” a resident musical favorite returned from Minnesota to entertain a large audience in Timmins Dining room. Thursday afternoon, residents in Rosewood sang and played instruments along with Music Therapist Elisabeth Tinnes and in Wedgewood Al and Lorna Olson worshipped with residents during their Bible Study group.

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Bob Gerot, Ardice Blankenhorn, and Maxine Davisson.

Halcyon House team members and residents extend our deepest sympathy to the family of our friend and resident Fritz Conrad.
