Hazardous weather outlook issued for area

Mar 23, 2018

Even with spring well on its way, winter is making one more gasp as a winter storm is predicted to move through the area this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of north central Illinois, northwest Illinois, west central Illinois, east central Iowa, northeast Iowa, southeast Iowa and northeast Missouri.

The service reports that tonight a winter storm warning and advisory is in effect through Saturday afternoon over most of the northern portions of the outlook area.

Rain will mix with and change to a heavy wet snow over northern sections this evening with hazardous travel conditions expected. The heavy wet snow and gusty easterly winds may result in sporadic power outages from downed tree branches.

Embedded nonsevere thunderstorms are possible along and mainly south of I-80 late tonight.

Saturday’s forecast is for snow, heavy at times, that will continue before diminishing in the afternoon with widespread 3 to 10 inches amounts over northern sections expected with isolated 12-plus inch snow amounts possible.

On Sunday night light mixed precipitation may develop that will quickly change to all rain as temperatures rise well above freezing by Monday morning.
