Highland moves on to next game

Highland Husky pitcher Katie Jo Springer (pictured above) did a great job pitching against the Cardinal Comets, Highland head coach Carrie Weiland said.

The Highland Huskies softball team won their first regional game against the Cardinal Comets on Wednesday, July 10.
“I was pleasantly surprised at how well we stayed together,” Weiland said. “I thought we could have scored more runs but a win is a win.”
Weiland said her top four batters struggled throughout the night so the other members of the team stepped up to keep the team on top.
Sophomore Morgan Craig was 2-2 and had one run. Junior Jordan Rath was 2 – 3. Rath had two RBI’s and a run. Freshmen Cheyann Adamson had a run as well as eighth-grader Kelsey Hora.
Weiland said Highland’s pitcher Katie Jo Springer helped to keep the team on top. Springer only allowed one run from the Comets. She had nine strikeouts, four hits and walked one player.
When asked what the team could improve on for the game on Friday night Weiland answered quickly.
“We need to get more runners on the base in the position to score,” she said. “Last night we didn’t really get to do that and we didn’t get to run any of our real plays.”
Higland beat the Comets with a score of 4 to 1. Their next game will be Friday, July 12, at 7 p.m. They will be playing West Branch at Highland.
