The Highland Community School District will have a meeting about the new bus routes for the 2017-18 school year next week.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the cafeteria at the high school, Highland superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen said.

“This will be a meeting just to inform parents about the route changes,” Jorgensen said.

Parents in the district should have received an email or text from the district’s notification system last week about the meeting.

“With the closing of the Ainsworth facility, things are changing so much,” Jorgensen said. “This is the first time we will have them printed out for parents to see.”

At a previous school board meeting, residents from Ainsworth brought up their concerns about the length of time students would be on the bus going to Highland Elementary School in Riverside and where pickup and drop-off locations would be in Ainsworth.

Highland transportation supervisor George Schultz has worked on the new bus routes for more than a month to get them ready for the next school year, Jorgensen added.

“The goal for the routes was not to exceed on hour of length and I think we accomplished this goal,” Jorgensen said. “There will be a pick-up [and drop-off] location at the Ainsworth school and supervision will be at that site. One will be downtown on Main Street in front of the laundromat.”

If parents have a question, Jorgensen urges them to ask at the meeting.

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions because it will be different,” he said.
