Highway 218 scene of multiple auto accidents

Dropping temperatures and wet conditions resulted in several cars sliding off Highway 218 early Wednesday morning.

According to the Washington County call log, the communications center received a call at 6:02 a.m. reporting a car was in the ditch at 2196 Highway 218 in Ainsworth. An officer responded. No damage was reported to the vehicle and the owner was making arrangements to get the vehicle towed. At 6:40 a.m. the center was notified of a vehicle in the median at 2164 Highway 218 in Ainsworth. The vehicle was not damaged and a tow truck was on the way.

At 6:55 a.m. a vehicle was reported in the median at Highway 218 and Old White Way in Crawfordsville. An officer advised the vehicle slid into the median. No damage was reported and the owner was fine. At 7:46 a.m. an officer reported being out with a vehicle and trailer in the median at 3017 Highway 218 in Crawfordsville. The operator had contacted the insurance company and a tow was on the way.

An officer reported at 8:21 a.m. being out with a vehicle in the 3000 block of Highway 218 in Crawfordsville in the north side of the ditch. No damage was reported to the vehicle and the owner was fine. A vehicle was reported in the ditch at 8:24 a.m. at 1051 Ginkgo Avenue in Wellman. No damage was reported to a vehicle, but a fence had been damaged. An officer reported being out with a vehicle in the ditch at 282nd Street and Highway 218 in Crawfordsville. The owner was fine. An unoccupied vehicle was reported along the roadway at Highway 218 and 240th Street in Ainsworth at 8:48 a.m.

A vehicle reportedly slid off the roadway at 10:51 a.m. at Highway 218 and 282nd Street in Crawfordsville. The operator appeared to be slumped over the wheel. Crawfordsville QRS, Washington County Ambulance, Crawfordsville Fire, Washington County Rescue and officers responded.
