WINNIPEG, Ontario — Reggie Hochstedler, a 2008 graduate of Iowa Mennonite School, recently signed a contract with the Winnipeg Goldeyes, an independent minor league baseball team located in Winnipeg, Ontario.

Hochstedler, a left-hander, signed with the Goldeyes on Feb. 8.

Playing for Nathan Miller, now the head coach of the Washington High School baseball team, Hochstedler helped IMS win the 2007 Class 1A state championship. The next season, after posting a record of 11-0 with a 0.92 earned run average, Hochstedler was selected as the captain of the Class 1A all-state team by the Iowa Newspaper Association.

Hochstedler walked on at the University of Northern Iowa and went 1-0 with a 4.37 ERA in 11 appearances as a freshman. After the Panthers dropped their baseball program, Hochstedler played one season at St. Petersburg College in Florida. He spent his last two seasons at Indiana State University, where he went 8-3 with four saves in 56 relief appearances. He had a 3.44 ERA for the Sycamores, striking out 80 batters while walking 21.

The Goldeyes will open the regular season on May 17 when they travel to Grand Prairie, Texas, to take on the AirHogs.
