IMS boys defeat Lone Tree

By Dwight Gingerich | Dec 01, 2017

IMS jumped to a 22-2 lead after one quarter and never looked back, taking down Lone Tree 74-33 Tuesday in the season-opener at Hillcrest Union. Cole Ours started things off with a trey on a Mitchell Schmieder kick-out, and less than three minutes later, a Caleb Gingerich triple gave IMS the 12-2 lead, prompting a Lone Tree time-out. IMS proceeded to outscore the Lions 10-0 through the rest of the period.

IMS led 39-16 at the half and then started the third period on a 9-3 run to lead 48-19 three minutes in. IMS led 55-29 after three quarters and then held off any Lone Tree runs down the stretch for the win. IMS shot 56 percent from the field and finished with 10 treys, including four by Cole Ours, two apiece for Gingerich and Trevor Leyden, while Schmieder and Jacob Boller each had one.

Cole Ours had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists, and Schmieder had a double-double, finishing with 13 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Trevor Leyden provided a spark at both ends with 10 points and two steals, also drawing a charge. Gingerich finished with eight points and four assists, and Reggie Borntrager had six rebounds to go with four points and three steals. Jeremy Niemeyer scored eight points, Eli Ours scored six points with a solid floor game in his varsity debut, and Boller tallied five points.

Cameron Roser-Peet, Cody Jones and Kobe Borntrager added two points apiece, as eleven players broke into the scoring column. Blake Bontrager and Isaiah Swantz provided solid minutes as well, with Bontrager passing for two assists.
