IMS opens season at Central Indoor

PELLA — Sophomore Riley Schmieder was the team’s top finisher when the IMS girls’ track and field team opened its season at the Jordan Sump Classic at Central College on Saturday.

Schmieder finished 20th in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 5:51.84. She also came in 78th in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.90 seconds.

Sophomore Renee Buckwalter finished 29th in the 800-meter run in 2:55.32, and she anchored IMS’ 4x200 relay team, which also included Anya Slabaugh, Kristin Davis and Schmieder, to a 34th-place finish in 2:07.63.

Slabaugh also finished 43th in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.88 seconds, 96th in the 55-meter dash in 8.32 seconds and 74th in the 200-meter dash in 31.13 seconds. Davis came in 69th in the 200-meter dash in 30.92 seconds, and she was 114th in the 55-meter dash in 8.41 seconds.

IMS will run in its first outdoor meet on April 4 at Danville.
