Independence Day schedule

By David Hotle | Jun 27, 2017
Many celebrations are planned around the area to celebrate Independence Day, though not all include fireworks.

Many celebrations are planned around the area to celebrate Independence Day, either on Tuesday, July 4, or during the weekend before that.

Most municipal offices will be closed on July 4.

Ainsworth City offices will be closed July 4.

Brighton City offices will be closed July 4.

Crawfordsville Fun Days will be held Friday and Saturday. Events include Parade, Bags Tournament, Euchre Tournament, Slow Pitch Softball Tournament, Water Fights, Kiddie Games, State Fair sanctioned Pedal Pull, Bounce Houses, and Family Friendly Trivia.

A show at the Shiloh Amphitheater is scheduled for Monday, July 3 from 7 to 10:15 p.m. and is hosted by the Shiloh Church and Conference Center. Shiloh church’s celebration of America’s Independence Day will feature live bands, and the famous production of “Fireworks Spectacular” in its farewell presentation. The retiring pyrotechnic “Fireworks Spectacular” has had a great run and a new, yet-to-be-designed, fireworks show will return in 2018 specifically for the Kalona and Shiloh communities.

Shiloh’s Independence Day fireworks celebration with live bands and “Fireworks Spectacular” will be carrying on a 30-year tradition, and has evolved once again to incorporate brilliant displays of close-proximity fireworks timed perfectly to music. Live bands will be starting at 7pm, followed by the fireworks show after dusk, approximately 9:30. There will be concessions available and picnic baskets are welcome.

City of Washington offices will be closed July 4.

The City of Wellman will be holding events throughout the day July 4 to celebrate Independence Day. Events begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K run starting at Parkside Activities Center. At 9:30 a.m. there will be a kiddie parade followed by the main parade at 10 a.m. Jack and Juanita Seward will be the grand marshals. The historical museum will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Also at 1 p.m. will be a garden tractor pull at South Park. Carnival rides and games will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at North Park. Rotary will serve a meal from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Parkside Activity Center. At 6:30 p.m. live entertainment will begin at the city bandshell. Fireworks will be shot at 9:30 p.m. by the Wellman Fire Department.
