MT. PLEASANT - James Paul “Jim” Phren, 72, died on May 6, at his home in Mount Pleasant, with his loving wife and family by his side.

Visitation will begin held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will great friends. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 13, in the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Larry Pohren and L.T. Pohren officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Catch A Dream (hunting/fishing trips for kids with cancer) and Dance Marathon (Children’s Miracle Network for the kids with cancer).

Pohren was born March 25, 1945, at Sockum Ridge, near Coppock, to Harold and Dorothy (Norton) Pohren. He attended rural country schools. He married Linda Deao on June 10, 1966, at Lockridge Baptist Church. They celebrated almost 51 years of marriage.

Pohren worked at the family farm and Rauscher Feed House and drove truck for Russell Rich. He went on to work at Parsons College as a plumber’s helper and at Fairfield Engineering. Later, he would work as a welder and union steward at JI Case in Burlington for more than 30 years.

Pohren enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He raced four-wheelers for several years with his son-in-law and grandkids.

Pohren is survived by his wife Linda, his son Harold (Pam) Pohren of Lowell, his daughter Tammy (Corey) Mumme of Mount Pleasant, two brothers John (Mary) Pohren and Jack (Donna Pohren) of Lockridge, six sisters Pat (John) McLain, Joyce (Jim) LeDuc, Sharon (Danny) Nelson, Sue (Don) Hopper, Sheila (Bryan) Westphal, all of Lockridge, and Charolette Keller of Mason City, several nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Glenn and Jerry Pohren, one granddaughter, Sarah Pohren, his mother-in-law, Margaret (Deal) Ackles, and father-in-law Art. Deao.
