Kalona monument dedicated

Top photo: A ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted Saturday for Kalona’s new Veterans, Firefighters  and First Responders monument. The memorial was constructed at the corner of B Avenue and Sixth Street. Those cutting the ribbon include Greg Schmidt, councilman; Lori Chalupa, a Kalona First Responder and Steve Yotty, Kalona Fire Chief.  Right photo: the street side of the monument presents an American flag. Members of the memorial committe included Larry TeBockhorst, Kevin Reece, Jan Peterseim, Pee Buffer, Larry Kern, Lori Chalupa, Anthony Spitzer, Steve Yotty, Ken Herrington,  Greg Schmidt, Ed Yoder, Ben Curtis and Ryan Schlaubaugh.

The dedication ceremony coincided with the  100th Anniversary of the Kalona Fire Department.  An open house was hosted by the fire department on Saturday.
