Keota High School Homecoming Week kicks off Monday and culminates on Friday with the Homecoming game against Belle Plaine.
Principal Steve Seid said that the Keota Student Council determined a theme for each day of the week. A king and queen will be voted for on Wednesday and the winners will be announced during a pep rally at 2 p.m. Friday.
“We share a football program with Sigourney, so we have our own Homecoming during basketball season,” Seid said.
Monday will be ‘America Day.’ Students are asked to come to school in their most patriotic garb. On Tuesday, students will get to dress down to celebrate ‘Hobo Day.’ Hoping to beat the cold, the school will celebrate ‘Beach Day’ on Wednesday. Thursday will be ‘Decade Day.’ Seniors are asked to dress as people did during the 1990s; juniors will dress in the style of the 1980s; sophomores will don the dress of the 1970s; freshmen will dress in the style of the 1960s; Eighth graders will dress as was done in the 1950s; seventh graders will dress as people did in the 1940s; and the faculty will wear clothes from the year 2000.
An Anything Goes contest will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the gym.
Spirit Day will be held Friday. The basketball games begin at 6 p.m. A mini-dance camp performance will be given during halftime of the girls’ game. The homecoming king and queen will be announced during the halftime of the boys’ game.
A homecoming dance will be held Friday after the game from 9 p.m. to midnight.
