Kitchen invested as Eighth District Associate Judge

With his wife Nicole holding the Bible, local attorney Daniel P. Kitches took his oath of office for the positon of District Associate Judge for the Eighth Judicial District Friday.

District 8 Judge Lucy Gamon administered the oath in the courtroom at the Washington County Courthouse.

Kitchen’s investiture folows his appointment to the bench in October.

Following the ceremony, Kitchen thanked his friends and associates and quoted Alexander Hamilton, saying “The first duty of society is justice.”

Kitchen graduated from Nevada High School and earned his degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1994.

After being admitted to the bar, he worked as an associate with Stanley, Lande and Hunter from 1995 to 1997.

Moving to Washington, he was a partner with the firm of Tindal and Kitchen, PLC, from 2000-2009.

In 2009, he opened his own practice.

Kitchen was appointed the Washington County Judicial Magistrate in September 2003. He has served in that role until his recent appointment as District Associate Judge.

Iowa’s Eighth Judicial District includes the counties of Appanoose, Davis,Des Moines,Henry,Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee North, Lee South,Louisa,Mahaska,Monroe,Poweshiek, Van Buren, Wapello and Washington.
