Laurita Yvonne was the youngest of five children born at home to Beryl and Eva (Howard) Grinstead on May 31, 1934. She was educated in one room schools in Wapello County, and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1952. Yvonne was raised on a farm, was active in 4-H and served as Wapello County Historian as a teenager. She married William Siegrist in 1954. They later divorced. She married Donald Junior Buster on February 12, 1971, in Washington, Iowa. He passed away on January 29, 2011.

Yvonne was the Washington County Deputy Assessor for many years and later retired from the Johnson County Treasurer’s Office. She also worked many part-time jobs after retiring including the Washington Care Center, as a cook’s aide for the Washington Community School District and served as an election official. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, having taught Bible School, served on several committees, helped with many funeral dinners, and served on the Board of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans as Vice President. Before her illness, she also assisted at Saturday Kitchen. Yvonne was an active supporter of Relay for Life and Hospice of Washington County.

Yvonne loved to spend time with her family and friends, and traveled as long as she was able. She took many bus trips with old friends and new, and those memories she deeply cherished. Yvonne gave herself generously and was a friend to everyone she met. She profoundly impacted many people during her 83 years on earth. She was a kind and kindred soul, as well as the best mother anyone can ask for. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by three children: Patrick Siegrist and wife Donna of Ainsworth, IA; Lori Siegrist and Walt Fritchen of Washington, IA; and Amber Wallace and husband Pat of Iowa City, IA. She leaves behind grandchildren: Seth Siegrist and fiancé Elizabeth and their two daughters, Zoe and Eva, of Rogersville, MO; and Dylan Siegrist of Washington, IA; Jenny McFarland and husband Shawn and their two sons, Talon and Mason of Ainsworth, IA; Dawn Clifton and her three daughters, Samantha, Abigale and Emilee of Ainsworth, IA; Johanna Wallace of Cedar Rapids, IA; Emma Wallace of Iowa City, IA; and William Wallace and wife Delia and their daughter, Margo, of Cedar Rapids, IA. Also surviving are her brother, Dean Grinstead and sister, Jean Proctor and husband Glenn, both of Ottumwa, IA.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; sister, Lois Johnson and her husband, Lyle; brother, Duane Grinstead and his wife Jeanne; grandson, Max; and four nieces and nephews, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family wishes to thank everyone who cared deeply for our mother: Pastor Maureen Howard, Dr. Todd Gray, Hospice of Washington County, and those friends and relatives who sent cards and flowers, sat by her bedside, prayed for her, and provided food for the family during this difficult time. Words cannot express our gratitude.
