Letters to the editor

Oct 19, 2017

to the Editor:

Thank you to the over 20 volunteers who, last Saturday morning, helped the Washington Tree Committee plant over 40 trees, some at WCDC and some at two intersections of West Fifth Street and the Kewash Trail. This fabulous project was made possible through a $3,500 Alliant Utilities Trees Forever grant with the cooperation of the City, the Washington County Conservation Board and our friends at WCDC.

However, it’s our wonderful volunteers who always come through for us, and that they did again Saturday – in the rain! While we started off at 8 a.m. in fine weather, the last 45 minutes we ended up working in a huge downpour!

Thank you to you, our volunteers, for your commitment to helping us “put down roots for the future in Washington, Iowa” – helping us in the sunshine or in the rain – always with a smile!

To the Editor:

It is very refreshing to see firsthand the willingness to help those individuals who have been directly affected by hurricanes, flood damage and wind.

A special thank you goes to Fareway for allowing a space for the baked items; Home Team Realty for the signs; and Culligan, Assembly of God Church, and several homeowners for allowing signs to be displayed on their property!

Thank you to a great community of giving, caring people!
