Iowa Mennonite School senior Jacayla Litwiller signed a national letter of intent to play softball for Dordt College in Sioux Center in the IMS library on Thursday, Jan. 23 .
Litwiller will play catcher for the Defenders. Dordt plays in the Great Plains Athletic Conference which belongs to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Last season the Defenders’ record was 6 - 33 overall, 2 -18 in conference play.
Dordt head softball coach Jeff Zomer was there to represent the college at the signing.
“Jacayla’s defensive ability is very good and something we look to continue with as we proceed. We like to have two catchers that start every other game and we do graduate an outstanding catcher this year so we have filled that need here,” Zomer said.
“I got other offers but Dordt just stood out to me. It’s a great school and where I felt like I needed to go. I’ve been in the gym for 30 hours a week and attended a practice. I stayed overnight in a dorm there as well and loved it,” Litwiller said.
Litwiller is the daughter of Becky and Jon Litwiller of Kalona. She will be majoring in elementary education at Dordt.
