RIVERSIDE – Two Washington sports clubs were the recipients of donated funds, all in part to a new program at the Riverside Casino.

The Washington Area Baseball Council and the Washington Area Softball Association both received a donation from the Giving Back program. The Giving Back program is something at the casino in which members of the Riverside Casino Resort Club have the opportunity to contribute $10 to help local organizations.

Steve Vetter, with the Washington Area Baseball Council says getting the funds is always helpful.

“It’s always nice to get funds to help out the youth playing baseball in Washington,” he says.

“That’s what we’ve always been about, helping the youth and providing what they need for the sport.”

The $2,130.90 the Council received will be used to update the pitching machine in the hitting facility.

“The old one is wore out,” Vetter says.

“It was around when the current facility was built about 8-10 years ago. It’s gone through a lot of pitches. The new one will be good for all the age groups.”

Kim Linnenkamp, with the Washington Area Softball Association says receiving the funds will be used at both Lincoln and Stewart elementary schools.

“We can keep doing the updates on the facilities at both schools as well as buy new equipment that can’t be used anymore,” she says.

The $4,261.80 was collected during the month of March and the funds were divided equally between both clubs.

Both the Washington Area Baseball Council and the Washington Area Softball Association were the first recipients of funds from the casino’s Giving Back Program.
