Jonas Coblentz, 2013 graduate of Mid-Praire High School and Jordan Gier, 2011 graduate of Washington High School will both be suiting up soon to play baseball for the Central College Dutch.
Coach Adam Stevens, in his 11th season, returns 16 letterwinners from last year’s 22-19 squad. The Dutch topped 100 wins over the past four seasons, the most successful period in program history.
On the mound Coblentz, a right-hander, made 12 appearances with 11 starts in his senior year at Mid-Prairie. He finished with a 6 – 4 record and an ERA of 3.09. Coblentz struck out 67 batters and he held opponents to a .197 average .
Gier has spent his past two seasons at Quincy University and in rehabiliation from injury.
Coblentz will be joining a pitching staff that as a unit had an ERA of 4.81 and held opponents to a .295 batting average last season. Gier will be looking to add his outfielder bat to an offense that hit .262 in 2013.
The 2014 season begins March 1-2 with three games in St. Louis against Wheaton College and Washington-St. Louis.
