Machine shed complete loss

Keota, Brighton and Washington firefighters extinguish a shed fire that occurred Tuesday morning.

KEOTA—Three fire departments were called out to a fire in a machine shed located at 1248 Hoot Owl Hollow Tuesday.
According to the Washington County Communications call log, a person reported a fire in the shop at 11:18 a.m. Things were exploding inside and black smoke was coming from the shop.
The Keota Fire Department, Brighton Fire Department, Washington Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance, and Washington County Sheriff’s Department all responded to the scene, the call log said.
Keota Fire Chief Ryan Sieren said the fire was on Jim Waterhouse’s property in his machine shed.
“We’re still investigating the cause,” Sieren said.
He thinks the fire may have been started by a spark from welding. Two people were inside the machine shed when the fire began but were able to get out safely.
“There were no injuries and that’s always good,” Sieren said.
The machine shed had construction equipment including a bulldozer and welding material inside it at the time of the fire, and is a complete loss, Sieren said.
The Keota Fire Department didn’t return to Keota until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sieren said.
