A Mt. Pleasant man was arrested Friday afternoon after attempting to elude Washington County Sheriff’s deputies on a motorcycle he was riding.

According to the Washington County call log, Ryan James Tusing, 26, of Mt. Pleasant, was arrested in the 400 block of North B Avneue in Washington on Washington County warrants for operating while intoxicated second offense and failure to appear for a non-jury trial for driving with a suspended license and failure to provide proof of financial liability. Bond is set at $2,000. He also faces additional charges of felony eluding, driving while revoked, operating while intoxicated second offense, careless driving, reckless driving, interference with official acts, no insurance, fraudulent registration and speed greater than 20 mph.

Washington County chef deputy Shawn Ellingson said today that the chase started when a deputy was going to fill his patrol vehicle at the county shed and saw Tusing riding the motorcycle. Ellingson said the deputy knew Tusing was wanted and attempted to stop Tusing when the chase started. Ellingson said the chase didn’t last long before Tusing hit a sign. Ellingson said the Tusing left on foot and the deputy was able to catch up to him.

“High-speed chases are always bad,” Ellingson said. “People like this make bad choices. That is why they end up in situations like this.”

Tusing is also wanted out of Henry County for failure to appear for pretrial conference on an original charge of driving under suspension. Extradition arrangements will be made and a detainer was placed.

He is also wanted out of Black Hawk County for probation violation on a charge of second-degree theft, forgery and fourth-degree theft. Bond is set at $30,000.

The motorcycle was towed and will be released to a valid driver who shows proof of insurance, proper registration and pays the tow bill.
