James Matthew Wehr, 38, of West Chester died from injuries suffered in a single car accident on Wednesday, May 22.
The Washington County Communications Center received a call about the accident at 12:40 p.m. According to the communications log, a caller said somebody stopped at his house to say a truck hit the bridge and went into the ditch.
At 12:50 p.m. the caller said there was a person inside who appeared to be unconscious. Washington County Rescue, Keota Fire Department, Keota QRS, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, and AirCare from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, were dispatched to the scene.
At 1:35 p.m. a coroner was requested to the scene. Dr. Robin Plattenberger responded. Wehr was pronounced dead and was transported to Beatty Funeral Home in Washington.
Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar said they are still investigating the car accident.
“We are waiting on autopsy results but don’t expect anything suspicious,” Dunbar said. “We request autopsies for someone that young to rule anything out.”
The accident took place about three miles from the Keokuk-Washington county line. Deputies were on the scene for almost an hour while rescue workers and the coroner responded, he said.
