Martha Washington Questers

Oct 01, 2013

Martha Washington Questers 1032 met Sept. 27, 2013, in the Genealogy Department at the Washington Public Library. Marge Lasek presented a tour of the holdings in the genealogy area. The library has family books on local families, lots of courthouse records, military records, immigration records, copies of wills and many other official documents. All births, deaths, and marriages in Washington County are stored here. There are also church records, census records and back issues of newspapers. The group enjoyed looking up family information, and thought that this area was an asset to the county.

The business meeting was at Gerry Schmidt’s home. The meeting was called to order by president Linda Newlon, and members recited the Questers Invocation. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were given and accepted. Linda told about upcoming Questers events, including the international convention, which will be in Iowa in 2016; State Day, which will be April 4 in Ames; and the Fall Area Day in Dubuque on Oct.5. Seven people will be going to Area Day and will meet at Linda’s house at 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4. The next meeting will be Oct. 25 with Vicki Ealy as hostess and Janet Peterson as co-host. The program will be Show ‘n’ Tell. The meeting was adjourned, and delicious refreshments were served by Gerry Schmidt.
