Mid-Prairie girls run through competition at Regina

IOWA CITY – The Mid-Prairie girls’ track team began its season at Iowa City Regina on Friday, March 28 with several promising performances.
Aby Tornow and Ali Butters took first and second place in the long jump with leaps of 4-6 and 4-2, respectively. Maddi Zahradnek and Calli Shaw finished third and fourth in the long jump at 14-3½ and 13-10½.
Tornow also did well on the track, finishing first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:54.59, the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.95 and the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:36.7. Hannah Van Roekel placed third in the 3,000-meter with a time of 12:38.69.
In the 100-meter dash, Lexi Duwa took second place with her time of 13.30 seconds. Duwa was followed by Kristina Millice in fifth place at 13.97. Jessica Goll was seventh at 15.06 and Lizzie Wildeboer came in 10th at 17.13.
The 400-meter dash featured Greta Schmidt and Faithe Garza. Schmidt placed third in 1:07.48 and Garza was right behind her in 1:07.77. Ali Naylor took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 19.35 seconds.
Zahradnek placed second in the 800-meter run in 2:42.56. Schmidt and Ally Bontrager placed eighth and ninth in 3:01.95 and 3:09.67. Duwa, Garza, Alex Rath and Goll placed second, sixth, seventh and ninth in the 200-meter dash. Their times were 27.03, 29.29, 29.51 and 31.14.
Butters and Van Roekel took second and third place in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:17.57 and 1:25.47. Van Roekel and Zahradnek placed fourth and third in the 1,500-meter run with times of 6:03.58 and 5:57.65.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Rath, Schmidt, Calli Shaw and Zahradnek placed second with a time of 11:52. The distance medley team of Bontrager, Goll, Shaw and Wildeboer took third place with a time of 5:20.28. The 4x200-meter relay team of Duwa, Millice, Naylor and Rath took second place with their time of 1:59.38.
The 800-meter sprint medley team of Bontrager, Goll, Naylor and Wildeboer took third place in 2:23.48. The 4x100-meter relay team of Duwa, Garza, Millice and Rath placed second with a time of 54.08. The 4x400-meter relay team of Butters, Garza, Shaw and Schmidt took fourth place in 4:47.71.
As a team the Golden Hawks placed second with 64 points and will be in action again on Thursday, April 3 at Mt. Pleasant.
