Mid-Prairie wrestlers compete at WACO tourney

WAYLAND - Mid-Prairie High School’s wrestling team participated in the WACO Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 18 and had nine wrestlers record a victory.
At 106 pounds freshman Duncan McCain won by pin over Daylen Fenton (Moravia) in 1:34 and by pin over William Marsh (Anamosa) in 1:17. Junior Josh Murphy won by pin over Travis Lewis (Tri-County/Montezuma) in 2:10 at 113 pounds.
In two 120-pound bouts freshman Blake Murphy won by pins over Mason Garber (Tri-County/Montezuma) after 1:42 and Bryon McCannon (West Burlington/Notre Dame) in 2:39. Freshman Visouth Peterschmidt, a 145-pounder, won by pin over Samuel Dolan (Anamosa) in 3:48.
Sophomore Miguel Sanchez pinned Daniel Husmann (Anamosa) in 1:50 and pinned John Askren (West Central Valley) in 5:07 in two 160-pound matches. Senior Eesaa Baylor got two pins at 170-pounds, over Kyle Oliver (New London HS) in 1:05 and Jacob Weber (Tri-County/Montezuma) in 1:29.
Baylor’s senior classmate Phirom Peterschmidt got three pins in the tourney, Charles Purnell (Regina) in 0:36, Alex Cloyed (Moravia) in 0:21 and Brennen Grimm (English Valleys) in 1:52.
Levi Duwa added two more pins to the Golden Hawk count, over Hunter Foubert (Tri-County/Montezuma) in 1:11 and Ed Henning (H-L-V) in 2:47. Senior Ben Fiordalise won by pin over Luke Jackson (English Valleys) in 3:14.
