Missouri man arrested for drugs

AINSWORTH — A traffic stop in Ainsworth Saturday morning led to the arrest of a Missouri man who was found to allegedly be in possession of drugs.

Lawton Ray Benna, 21, of Missouri, was arrested Saturday morning at the Highway 92 and Highway 218 ramp in Ainsworth for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance - cocaine, possession of a controlled substance - LSD, and possession of a controlled substance - marijuana second offense.

The report said the Iowa State patrol had taken Benna into custody and brought him to the Washington County Jail.

Marijuana is listed in Iowa law as a schedule 1 narcotic, which means a conviction of possession of marijuana, second offense is a serious misdemeanor and can bring up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,500. Possession of less than 100 grams of cocaine is a Class C felony and can bring up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Possession of LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamine) is a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
