New 4-H club to meet

Jan 08, 2018

This new after-school 4-H club will teach members to have kitchen sense and safety while they learn about the major food groups and making healthy choices for their growing bodies. Members will explore the tasty fun of the kitchen through new recipes each week while including topics such as the basics of food and kitchen safety, healthy recip substitues, snacks on the go, meal planning and serving etiquette. They will exercise together, cook together and have fun together for six weeks.

Washington County Extension and Washington County Hospitals and Clinics are partnering together to bring this club to Stewart Elementary first-and second-grade students. Fliers will be sent home in backpacks the week of Jan. 2, but registration forms are also available on the Extension website at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/washington/.

This afterschool club will be held Thursdays afterschool until 4:30 p.m. in the Stewart School Art Room. It is open to any first-to second-grader student who wants to learn more about healthy living, eating and moving. The Kids in the Kitchen curriculum is a product of Iowa 4-H.

Registrations accepted on a first come, first serve basis until Jan. 12 at the Stewart Elementary Office or the Washington County Extension Office. There are limited spots available. There is a fee due with the registration. Youth are not required to be a Clover Kid/4-H member.

Please contact the Washington County Extension Office, 319-653-4811 or amygreen@iastate.edu, with any questions about this Healthy Living Club or how to get involved with other youth activities as a member or volunteer.
