New cooking club to start

Sep 18, 2017

A new youth cooking club, the Clover Cookers, is scheduled to start in October through Washington County Extension/4-H. This club is open to any fourth-to 12th-grader in Washington County who has an interest in cooking, food safety and healthy living.

This new specialty club will meet every other month on a Saturday afternoon. Each two-hour meeting will explore the tasty fun of the kitchen through new recipes while including the important topics of basic food and kitchen safety, healthy recipe substitutes, snacks on the go, meal planning and serving etiquette. Plans include preparing and serving a family meal, outdoor cooking adventures and helping other youth groups. This club will allow participants to further develop the life skills of team work, planning, math, reading and more all in the kitchen.

Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until Oct. 15 at the Washington County Extension Office. There is a fee to cover cooking supplies and ingredients. Other adult volunteers may be needed. If interested in this type of volunteering to positively impact youth and increase their love for cooking, contact the Extension Office.

Please contact the Washington County Extension Office, 319-653-4811 or amygreen@iastate.edu, with any questions about the Clover Cookers Club or how to get involved with Washington County 4-H as an adult volunteer.
