The Washington High School National Honor Society collected gifts for the University of Iowa’s Children’s Hospital.

Gracie Greiner was the head of the committee for the toy drive, she said. She organized everything and assigned the shopping to three other NHS members. They spent over $500.

“We just bought a mix of kids from like 3 to all the kids there,” Molly Sparks said.

The toys will be delivered Tuesday morning, Griener added, but they won’t be able to see the children’s reaction to the toys.

“We have to stay on certain floors [due to the children’s health],” Griener added.

Money was donated from the Optimist Club, money from having a blood drive which is supposed to go toward another charity and several students and staff at Washington High School.

Another part of the trip to the children’s hospital tomorrow will include an eight-minute video of students and staff from all the Washington schools waving to patients there.

“We were filming all of last week and the week before,” Brennan Horak said.

They went to every classroom at the high school and went to the other schools during lunch time.

They saw the wave happening during the Iowa football games and thought it would be a great idea to do a video continuing the wave during the holiday season.
