LONE TREE — Highland led rival Lone Tree 15-8 after one quarter of Tuesday’s Class 1A District 6 semifinal, but the fifth-ranked Lions overcame the slow start for an 81-70 victory.

Lone Tree (23-1) out-scored the Huskies 25-7 in the second quarter to take an 11-point lead into the locker room. Highland opened the second half with an 8-2 run to cut the lead to five, but that was as close as the Huskies got.

Senior Talon McFarland scored 15 points to lead Highland, which finished its season with a record of 14-9. Junior Josh Brase added 12 points, and senior Jake Hootman had 10 rebounds.

Senior Bryan Forbes scored 22 points, grabbed five rebounds and had five steals to lead Lone Tree, which advances to face Preston (20-3) in Thursday’s district final in Bettendorf. Senior Gabe Lorack added 12 points for the Lions, and junior Trenton Gosnell had 11.
