No. 9 BGM rallies past Highland

BROOKLYN — Highland led BGM 17-10 in the third quarter of Wednesday’s Class A first-round playoff game, but the ninth-ranked Bears rallied to win 24-17.

Highland (6-4) got a 28-yard field goal from senior Cameron Vinsand in the first quarter, and junior Kody Wood’s 44-yard touchdown pass to senior Talon McFarland in the final minute of the second quarter tied the score at the break. Wood found senior Derrick Stewart for a 15-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter that put the Huskies up 17-10, but the Bears (8-2) came back to win.

Wood was 8-for-18 passing for 118 yards and two touchdowns. McFarland had two catches for 55 yards, and Stewart caught three passes for 44 yards. Stewart also rushed for 46 yards.

Senior Trey Brenneman made 13 tackles to lead the Highland defense, and junior Jesse Hootman made 12 stops. Senior Jake Hootman had 11 tackles, and senior Jake Tate intercepted a pass.
