The Washington Police Department is investigating reports of vandalism to at least seven cars and two buildings that happened overnight Thursday, and are asking the community to report anything they may have seen that would aid the investigation.
Washington Police officer Chad Huschka said this morning that the department had received reports of vehicles and the New Dawn and bathroom buildings at Sunset Park being vandalized with spray paint and magic marker. He said city workers are currently removing the vandalism. He said that all the incidents so far happened south of Main and west of Marion.
“There was some profanity and some people’s names were left,” he said. “I interviewed one of the individuals whose name was written, and they adamantly deny involvement.”
He said that the department has some leads they are investigating. He said that he doesn’t have a total of the amount of damage that was caused from the vandalism.
Huschka said that vandalisms do happen in the area, but not usually to the extent of the vandalisms being reported this morning.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Washington Police Department at 653-2256 or 653-2107.
